Your phone should not make the first decision of your day.

When the screen becomes your first cue, messages, headlines, and other people’s priorities can take over before you choose your own. Create a simple boundary: keep the first 20 minutes phone-free.

Use the first-20-minutes rule

  • Charge the phone beyond arm’s reach.
  • Open the blinds or step into morning light.
  • Drink water and move for two to five minutes.
  • Write down the first important task of the day.

Then check the phone deliberately instead of automatically. If you must remain reachable, allow calls from key contacts while keeping feeds and inboxes closed.

The goal is not digital purity. It is to give your attention a starting point you chose.

Try the rule tomorrow morning. Find more practical habit tools at LeanByHabit.com/program-pdf.
