When your thinking gets stuck, stop trying to think harder.

Long meetings, travel, deadlines, and hours at a screen can leave your mind busy but ineffective. You keep rereading the same paragraph or circling the same decision.

Sometimes the best way forward is to move first.

Use the mental-sharpness reset

  1. Step away from the screen.
  2. Walk briskly, climb stairs, or cycle for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Leave your phone in your pocket and let your attention settle.
  4. When you return, write the single most important next action.

The goal is not a workout record. It is a state change. A short bout of movement creates a clean break between mental fatigue and focused work.

Attach movement to demanding work

Make this a trigger-based habit: before an important decision, difficult writing session, or afternoon block of deep work, move for a few minutes first.

Today’s action: Identify one task that requires your best thinking. Take a short, phone-free walk immediately before you begin. Return, choose the next action, and start.
