THE LAW OF DIMINISHING INTENT

Installing NEW routines and behaviors requires a herculean disciplined effort. Do not squander your desire. Put it to good use. Take immediate action. Hesitation allows your desire to install good habits that will improve your life to pass without being employed. Don’t allow the emotion to diminish through indecision. Indecision is mental paralysis. Indecision means what could be is postponed or may never be. Indecision means putting off what we could do, what we should do. Indecision means the opportunity waits. Indecision means the door remains closed. The longer we delay, the less likely we are to act. Our desire quickly erodes and fades from existence. The wisdom is wasted, and the idea is soon forgotten. “Indecision is the greatest thief of opportunity.” Jim Rohn
Deciding, finally replacing your “I SHOULD-s” with “I WILL-s” can be an excellent source of motivation, but once you decide, you must discipline yourself to act. Never leave the site of a decision without taking immediate action. It can be the smallest of actions. It isn’t the size of the action that matters most. Baby steps count too. You want to generate momentum, and that is done through movement. A decision not married to action is merely a wish. A real decision forces an action. Start small and begin building momentum. Start becoming a person that gets out of their head and into action. Real decisions change our behavior. True decisions are the only things that improve our lives.

WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF CHANGE

We all have the power to change who we are. Not immediately. It takes time. It took time to develop into the person we are, and it will take time to become the person we want to be. Our identity emerges from our habits. Every action casts a vote for the type of person we want to become. Each action is another piece of evidence supporting that identity. If you play an instrument once, you cannot call yourself a musician, but if you played every day, you could. Even if you only practiced 10-minutes a day, if that practice was purposeful, you would see improvement. In time, you and everyone you know would have to agree you are a musician. Habits hold the key to unlocking our potential as human beings.

As human beings, our greatest gift is our capacity to transform ourselves through our habits Continue reading WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF CHANGE

“Typically, people who exercise, start eating better and becoming more productive at work. They smoke less and show more patience with colleagues and family. They use their credit cards less frequently and say they feel less stressed. Exercise is a keystone habit that triggers widespread change.”
― Charles DuhiggThe Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

The habit of getting up early each morning, exercising for at least 20-minutes and setting a positive tone for the rest of your day has numerous physical and psychological benefits.

Getting up is one of the hardest things we do each day. It gives you a mental edge over everyone else knowing you had the discipline to get up and get a workout in before you got to work or school. You’ll begin the day with a sense of accomplishment. It is like walking around with a secret. Continue reading “Morning Exercise is a Keystone Habit”

THE EVERYDAY METHOD OF HABIT FORMATION

Everyday removes the need to make a decision. The behavior becomes automatic. No need to stop and think about what day it is. Every day is Monday. I start virtually every day the same. I wake-up at the same time and the first hour is always the same. I thrive on the regularity. I love how it sets the tone for the rest of my day. That first hour is magical. It is life changing. We Model our Values, Beliefs and Standards.

People will tell you what is important to them, but the best way to learn their values is through watching their behavior. You could say personal development is important to you, but if you don’t schedule any time each day to read, listen to audiobooks, or watch instructional videos each day, then I know it isn’t really a priority.
We live our values, beliefs, and standards. We model them. Show me how you spend your time and I will tell you what is important to you. Your daily rituals will tell me everything I need to know about your values. We make time for our priorities. We make them part of our daily routine. If something isn’t a daily priority, it isn’t a priority. We are creatures of habit. We form habits, then they form us. We become what we habitually do.
